The FOOD & KITCHEN AFRICA - International Trade Exhibition is the largest trade event for the food, beverage and agro based industry held annually in Tanzania. The event provides an international single window business platform for exporters to present the latest products for the East African market. Tanzania has a population of about 58 million people and a gross domestic product (GDP) of about $63 billion. Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy, accounting for about 25% of the GDP. However, Tanzania imports food and beverages from other countries supplement meet its domestic demand and to diversify its consumption patterns. According to the World Bank, Tanzania's imports of goods and services amounted to $10.9 billion among the main categories of food and beverage imports for Tanzania were cereals and preparations (35%), fats and oils (33%), sugar and honey (8%), dairy products (5%) and fish and fish preparations (4%). The value of food and beverage imports from Tanzania is about $1.13 billion and the import dependency rate is 17% mainly relying on imports of cereals (28%), sugar (24%) and vegetable oils (23%).
