According to the latest Global Timber Index (GTI) Report, supported by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Ghana’s GTI reached 68.2%, moving well above the 50% threshold. This significant improvement reflects an upward trajectory and renewed vitality within the country’s wood industry.
Ghana’s strong performance stands out on the global stage, especially as many other countries recorded lower GTI scores due to seasonal slowdowns. The nation’s timber enterprises remained active, with production levels maintaining a steady pace, indicating resilience and growth in the face of broader global fluctuations.
The GTI highlights that Ghana's wood industry is on a firm path toward expansion, with rising domestic production and export momentum contributing to its solid performance. This growth positions the sector as a key driver of economic activity, supporting employment and increasing its role in global trade.
Encouragingly, market expectations among timber enterprises in Ghana are optimistic for the first half of 2025. The positive outlook signals strong confidence in the industry’s continued progress, supported by stable demand and expanding market opportunities.
As global attention turns to sustainable natural resource development, Ghana’s thriving timber sector is well-positioned to serve as a model of consistent performance and growth. With supportive industry dynamics and increasing international interest, Ghana’s wood industry is set to continue its upward climb and play a significant role in the global timber market.
