Kenya ranked eighth largest global geothermal producer

- Kenya’s installed steam power capacity now stands at 579MW, ahead of giant economies such as Japan, Russia, China and Germany – according to a study presented to the World Bank by state-owned KenGen.

Vestas supply wind turbines for Kenya’s wind farm; firm’s largest single order

 Vestas has supplied 365 wind turbines that will see Kenya’s Lake Turkana Wind Power Project (LTWP) give off 310 megawatts. The order becomes the largest single order for the company. The wind power project was commissioned in March 2014. It is estimated to cost US$ 766.6m and expected be the largest wind farm in Africa. World’s first submarine cable to connect Africa and L. America

 World’s first submarine cable is set to be constructed in Angola across the South Atlantic with NEC Corporation as the system supplier.

 
According to Angola Cables S.A, a contract for the project that will see Angola and Brazil connected via cable has been signed.

AFDB to fund construction of Egyptian Airport

 The Sharm El-Sheikh International airport has received US$140 million from the African Development Bank (AFDB) to facilitate its expansion project.

 
The expansion involves constructing a new terminal (terminal 3) and a runway in order to increase the passengers handling capacity by 10 to 18 million per year.

Erhc Prepares For 1st Drilling In Kenya’s Block 11a

Egypt to build a nuclear power plant in partnership with Russia

 Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have agreed to corporate to build a nuclear power plant in Egypt.

 
The partnership deal was signed during an official visit by President Vladimir Putin to Egypt.
 
The move for a nuclear power plant project is expected to strengthen economic ties between the two countries and cater for electricity necessities in the country.

SODIC to invest US$301.64 million in Egypt

 Egypt’s property group SODIC has announced on Monday this week that it will invest US$301.64 million in 2015. CEO of SODIC Ahmed Badrawi has said the company is set to build 684 new property units in 2015. The company had announced last year that construction of first phase of its development in Heliopolis would start this year.

Tanzania: Madinda-Dar gas pipeline project to end this year

The 542 km natural gas pipeline under construction in Tanzania, from Madinda in Mtwara to Dar es Salaam is now 99 per cent complete, with the project expected to be done by July 1 this year according to Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) Plant Manager, Mr Leonee Mroso.

Construction of Kenya’s tallest skyscraper kicks off

 Construction of the Kenya’s tallest skyscraper, 40 storey Hazina Trade Centre in Nairobi has started. The tower will be constructed atop the existing 8 storey Hazina Trade Centre located on Moktar Daddah Street and currently hosting one of Kenya’s main chain stores, Nakumatt Lifestyle.

Kenya to begin selling power to Rwanda in 2015

 Kenya will begin to export power to Rwanda to help the latter meet its increasing demands for low cost electricity. This follows the signing of a power trade deal on Tuesday this week for construction of a 220kv power line from Kenya to Rwanda.

CAMAC completes seismic surveys for oil and gas exploration in Kenya

 CAMAC Energy, a United States oil and gas exploration company has announced completion of 2D seismic acquisitions for two blocks in Kenya; 700 line kilometers on L-1B block and 325 line kilometers on L-16 block.
