Kenya is building Africa’s biggest wind energy farm to generate a fifth of its power

Kenya set in motion the construction of Africa’s biggest wind power farm this week, near Laisamis, 550km north of Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

Known as the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project, the wind farm site covers 40,000 acres (162km2), which will be powered by the ‘Turkana Corridorwind.’ It is a low-level jet stream originating from the Indian Ocean and blows all year round.

A US$400m gas-fired plant boosts Africa's energy needs

 The Côte d’Ivoire republic has commissioned a US$400m gas-fired plant at the Azito Energie. This comes at a time when the nation is focusing on the expansion of energy infrastructure and development to enable the country to export power to the neighbouring countries such as Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone given that the current power export from Côte d’Ivoire goes to Ghana, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso.

APR Energy lands a 27 million gas turbine supply contract in Egypt

 APR Energy is set to provide a gas turbine power plant for an industrial customer in Egypt after landing a €27 Million contract.

The leading world Mobile power supplier signed the deal early this week after a competitive tender that attracted many companies to provide a gas turbine power plant for an industrial customer in Egypt.
The project, which is for a minimum of 12 months, has an estimated value exceeding US$30 million (€27 million).

Wind power plant in Meru, Kenya set to generate 400MW of power

 Kenyan electricity producing company, KenGen is set to develop a 400MW wind power farm in Meru County putting an addition to the growing portfolio of renewable energy sources.

 
The first phase of the project which is stipulated to be complete by December, 2017 will generate 100MW of electricity.

Ghana aims to be port of call for west Africa’s offshore oil industry

 

 
In April, the China Harbour Engineering Company was awarded a $600 million contract for the project, which is sited 326 kilometres west of Ghana’s capital, Accra, and just 100km west of Takoradi, the centre of the country’s emerging oil industry.

Tullow Enjoys Strong Oil Production in West Africa

 Independent producer Tullow Oil reported Wednesday that it had seen strong oil production from its West African operations during the first half as the company took action to "re-set" its business. During the first six months of 2015, Tullow's West Africa working-interest oil production averaged 66,500 barrels per day.
