Firm Sets Up Africa's Largest Biogas Plant

 A Sh765 million biogas plant being set up in Naivasha will generate 2.2 megawatts of power when in operation.

 
Speaking at the commissioning of the project on Friday, Tropical Power managing director Johnnie McMillan said the new anaerobic digester (AD) will sell 50 per cent of its electricity to Gorge Farm and the balance to Kenya Power for hook into the national grid.

Kuwait Funds the construction of key road in Tanzania

 Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete has opened a ‘key road in Tanzania whose construction was sponsored by Kuwait government’s Fund for Arab Economic Development.

 
During the opening ceremony of marking the main road in Tanzania Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete expressed his gratitude to Kuwait for road infrastructure support.

Biogas plant in Africa boosts energy production a year after construction

 The constructed biogas plant in South Africa located in the Uilenkraal dairy farm in the Western Cape has broken the record by achieving a 1.5GWh electricity production this August just a year after it began operation.

 
Since production work begun, the plant has been meeting 95 percent of the electricity demand for dairy farmers, animal feed milling and crop irrigation activities.The plant also produces high quality bio-fertilizer as a by-product.Read more »

The construction of high efficient power plant in Africa to commence

 Tobene Power S.A is set to begin the construction of high efficient power plant in Senegal  after the country’s Tobene Power Project signed a financing deal with the World Bank Group International Development Association.

 
According to a statement released by Republic of Senegal, other banks involved in the financing of the project includes the Citibank and BNP Paribas.

Libya's state power firm in talks with Turkish companies

Tripoli - Libya's state electricity firm is in talks with Turkish firms to get them to return to carry out badly-needed maintenance work at power plants in the North African nation, a senior official with the Libyan company said.

 
Libya has been hit hard by power outages as fighting between rival factions damaged plants, interrupted the grid and made the import of spare parts more difficult.

Ethiopia moots plan for cement

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Industrial Projects Service (IPS), a state-owned consultant has won a contract from Messebo Cement to conduct an assessment of the cement market around Addis Ababa.

Rwanda to Export Cement As New Plant Boost Production

Rwanda's only cement manufacturer CIMERWA Ltd, yesterday, unveiled a new plant expected to increase production and boost export revenues.

 
The new state-of-the-art plant in Muganza Sector, Rusizi District, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Anastase Murekezi.
 
The factory, worth $170 million, has the capacity to produce six times the current capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year.

Malawi Discovers New Mineral Deposits

 IMPOVERISHED Malawi announced that new mineral deposits had been discovered in a $30-million geophysical survey sponsored by the World Bank and the European Union. Natural resources and mining minister Bright Msaka did not specify the minerals, but other officials said they were phosphate, copper, coal, kimberlite, nobium and uranium. Mantra to start uranium mining

MWANZA, Tanzania – Uranium mining at the Mkuju River Project in Southern Tanzania may start in April next year.

 
The Deputy Minister responsible for mining in Ministry of Energy and Mining  Charles Kitwanga  said following the arrival of heavy machinery. Uranium mining is scheduled to commence in April next year.

East Africa's geothermal power generation to grow by 1000mw

 Ethiopia geothermal power generation is set to grow after the country signed a power purchase agreement with Berkley Energy which is a Kenyan linked company that will see 1,000MW of energy being generated.

 
The signing was done by Azeb Asnake, CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) and Edward Njoroge, one of the investors from Berkeley Energy.

Constructed Ngong wind power plant in Kenya

 The constructed Ngong wind power plant is to be commissioned in Kenya by Kengen in a bid to boost the renewable sources contributions to the national grid. It is hoped that the move will help in meeting the vision of generating 5,000MW of power by 2018. The construction of the wind power farm was expanded as a way of scaling up energy sources as the country looks to green energy.
