Construction of buildings to be completed within five years

 Property developers and individuals building homes will have to complete construction within five years or face penalties under a new law proposed by the government.

 
The Physical Planning Bill, 2015 say the five-year period will start once an investor is issued with a  development permit. This will be a blow to those who prefer to build in stages and will also affect those who suspend construction after running out of funds.

Kuwait invest in the infrastucture development in Tanzania

 Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete has opened a ‘key road in Tanzania whose construction was sponsored by Kuwait government’s Fund for Arab Economic Development.

 
During the opening ceremony of marking the main road in Tanzania Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete expressed his gratitude to Kuwait for road infrastructure support.

KTDA boosts construction of hydro power plants in Kenya

 Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA)  has announced that it was constructing four hydro power plants in Kenya at a total cost of US$ 46m.

 
Kenya Tea Development Agency chief executive officer, Mr. Lerionka Tiampati confirmed the news about plans to hydro power plants in Kenya and said that the company is keen on ensuring that its factories in tea growing regions have access to alternative energy to help cut operation costs.

SA's Ascendis acquires Farmalider stake

Ascendis Health today announced its first international acquisition with the purchase of a 49% stake in Spanish pharmaceutical group, Farmalider SA, for R210 million, with a right to acquire the remainder of the business in two further tranches over the next five years.

 
Madrid-based Farmalider develops and manufactures mainly generic pharmaceutical products, with a market leading position in the ibuprofen and paracetamol markets in Spain.

Fidson to commission $38 million drug plant in Nigeria

Fidson Healthcare plc will commission a N7.5 billion (US$38 million) drug-making plant this year to offer more options in the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry and grow its portfolio.

Sappi and Boregaard expands capacity at lignin joint venture

Borregaard and Sappi will increase the lignin production capacity by 20,000 tonnes at LignoTech South Africa. The added volume will be marketed to the joint venture company's existing applications and geographical markets. The investment by LignoTech is estimated at R105m (approx. US$ 8.5 million), and the project is expected to be completed in 2017.

Tanzania: KPC Inefficiency in Eldoret Pushes Rwandan Fuel Transporters to Dar

 Loading challenges and congestion at the Kenya Pipeline Company's (KPC) depot in Eldoret are the key reasons why Rwanda's fuel transporters prefer to incur higher costs by using the Dar es Salaam port, fuel dealers say.

Firm Sets Up Africa's Largest Biogas Plant

 A Sh765 million biogas plant being set up in Naivasha will generate 2.2 megawatts of power when in operation.

 
Speaking at the commissioning of the project on Friday, Tropical Power managing director Johnnie McMillan said the new anaerobic digester (AD) will sell 50 per cent of its electricity to Gorge Farm and the balance to Kenya Power for hook into the national grid.
