The residents of Ganda, Kakuyuni, and Marafa Wards in Kilifi County are overjoyed that the construction of major roadways aimed at promoting development has begun.

The Kilifi County Government plans to spend approximately Sh140 million on the construction of phase one of the Kijiwetanga-Jakaranda road in Ganda Ward (Sh40 million), phase two of the Goshi-Madunguni road in Kakuyuni Ward (Sh50 million), and cabro roads at the Marafa Trading Centre in Marafa Ward. Mr. Philip Charo, County Chief Officer for Roads, handed over the building locations for the Goshi-Madunguni and Kijiwetanga-Jacaranda roads to the construction company M/S. S Mehta and Sons Construction Company on Tuesday. The Marafa Cabro road project started last month.

In Goshi, Mr Charo stated that the Goshi-Madunguni Road would make it easier for producers in the agriculturally rich Madunguni region to get their produce to markets, as well as people to access key urban services. He stated that the cabro roads at the Marafa Trading Centre would benefit companies while also making it easier for people to visit Hell’s Kitchen, a tourist attraction hub in Marafa Ward.

At Kijiwetanga, Mr Charo stated that the Kijiwetanga-Jacaranda Road was going to make it easiest for tourists to reach beach hotels in the Jacaranda area from Malindi International Airport. Morris Dadu Hinzano, a member of the Kakuyuni County Assembly, congratulated Governor Gideon Mung’aro for the road project in his Ward and promised to work with him despite being elected by different political parties.

Ganda Ward MCA Oscar Wanje commended the County Government for the Kijiwetanga-Jacaranda Road, stating that it will be an essential shortcut for tourists traveling from Malindi International Airport to hotels in the Jacaranda area near Watamu. Residents from both Wards who met with journalists expressed their excitement and thanked their leaders for working together despite political differences to ensure development reached all areas of Kilifi.
