Uber Eats, a food delivery app has been launched in Kenya by Uber. The app claims to reach the vast locality and allows customers to purchase food from various restaurants and have it deliver to their doorstep at an ease.
Amal Devani, General Manager of Uber Eats Kenya said, “We are excited to introduce this revolutionary app to Nairobi, after its huge global success in over 200 cities around the world. It has been custom-built to suit local needs, including the option of paying by M-PESA and cash. At the touch of a button, Nairobi residents are now conveniently and easily connected to their favorite restaurants.”
Devani also spoke about their partnership with over 100 restaurants in the capital. Orders can be placed through the app, which will be delivered via couriers. Approximately 100 plus couriers have signed up as delivery services. The app will first see its run at the Kileleshwa, Westlands, Kilimani and Lavington suburbs, gradually progressing within the rest of the city. It is expected to be extended further to other cities in Kenya
Uber Eats, the app can be downloaded from either Google play or the App store and will accept orders between 10am to 10pm, and is available throughout the week with a no minimum order condition. The delivery service will be priced as Sh150. This app will be different from Uber rides, which allows people to book transport easily.
Devani further added; this app will support growth of local restaurant by getting more exposure to more virtual customers from this technology. It will open doors to build a strong business and also give access to actionable data and analytics that can make their business more profitable and efficient. He also added about creating new flexible economic opportunities at the push of a button, for their delivery partners.
Uber first launched Uber Eats two years ago and is available in 200 cities across the world delivering food from 8,000 restaurants globally .Nairobi becomes the fourth city in sub-Saharan Africa in which Uber Eats is available after Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
