Tanzania Advances Road Infrastructure with 558 New Street Lights

The Government of Tanzania is set to install 558 street lights along the 76-kilometre Ntyuka–Mvumi–Kikombo road in Chamwino District, Dodoma Region, as part of the ongoing road development project. 

The initiative highlights the growing role of public lighting infrastructure in Tanzania’s broader transport and urban development plans. The road is being upgraded to tarmac standards, with the planned lighting system expected to support activity along the route and contribute to a more vibrant roadside environment.

Speaking during a public rally in Mvumi Constituency, Minister for Works Abdallah Ulega said the street-lighting component will support the expansion of economic activities by enabling businesses and other operations to make greater use of the road corridor during evening hours.

For the lighting industry, projects of this scale demonstrate the increasing demand for street-lighting solutions, LED technology, lighting controls, poles, solar-powered systems and related electrical infrastructure across emerging transport corridors. The improved road infrastructure is expected to facilitate the movement of people and goods, particularly agricultural produce, connecting communities with major markets in Dodoma.

The development also presents opportunities for local communities, with the Government indicating that young people will receive priority for employment opportunities associated with the project. As Tanzania continues to invest in roads and public infrastructure, integrated lighting systems can become an important component of new transport corridors, commercial areas and growing communities.

With continued investment in transport networks, municipalities and expanding communities, demand is expected to grow for energy-efficient, durable and intelligent lighting solutions that can support long-term infrastructure development. The planned 558 street lights therefore represent more than an infrastructure addition, they are part of a broader opportunity for the lighting industry to contribute to Tanzania’s connected, productive and sustainable future.
