FedEx and KAM Will Drive Kenya's Trade and Manufacturing Plans

The engagement occurs at a crucial moment for Kenya's industrial sector, as the nation aims to raise manufacturing's share of GDP from 7.3% (KNBS, 2025) to 20% by 2030. Industry executives emphasized the significance of improving the speed, dependability, and integration of transport solutions as global supply chains continue to change in tandem with changing logistics cost dynamics.

 

Senior executives, legislators, and logistics specialists convened at the summit to discuss how Kenya may improve its standing in high-value, time-sensitive sectors like agricultural, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and electronics.

 

Tobias Alando, the chief executive of KAM, opened the meeting by stating that manufacturers are already under a great deal of stress due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions, which are raising trade costs and upsetting traditional supply routes.

 

FedEx's Managing Director of Sales for Sub-Saharan Africa, Leon Bruwer, reiterated the company's long-term commitment to Kenya, pointing out that the country's status as one of only nine direct-serve markets in Africa indicates a strategic focus on its potential for commerce and investment.

 

The importance of speed and dependability in logistics is clearly demonstrated by Kenya's dominant position in the world market for perishable commodities like tea and flowers. Precision logistics, made possible by integrated global air networks, will be crucial to preserving product integrity, cutting lead times, and satisfying demands from outside markets as the nation enters higher-value manufacturing.

 

Stakeholders pointed out that although air freight provides unparalleled speed and dependability, authorities and industry participants have the chance to improve its accessibility and commercial feasibility for SMEs along African trade routes.

 

Through digital solutions and reduced customs procedures, FedEx is also improving cross-border trade, allowing Kenyan companies—especially SMEs—to scale internationally and handle international logistics more effectively.

 

FedEx and KAM pledged to strengthen cooperation in support of Kenya's manufacturing ecosystem at the end of the meeting, with an emphasis on boosting global connectivity, expanding access to effective logistics solutions, and empowering companies to engage more competitively in international trade.
