Dodoma Secures 5.5 Billion/-Boost for Child and Maternal Health in Tanzania

Posted on : Friday , 12th September 2025

The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) has provided the DODOMA Region with 2.455 million US dollars (about 5.524 billion/-) during the last four years to improve maternal and child health services.

The money has been allocated to the districts of Kongwa and Mpwapwa, where they have enhanced the delivery of health services by training staff, renovating and modernising 17 institutions, acquiring necessary medical equipment and acquiring two ambulances and seven backup generators.

Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule opened a project evaluation conference in Dodoma, stating that the investment has increased the quality of services offered to mothers and children and greatly benefited the region's healthcare system.

Reducing maternal and child mortality rates is the project's main goal, according to KOFIH Country Representative Mr. Gyeongloae Seo. To increase its impact and support national health priorities, the project may be expanded into other areas.

The project was praised by Dr Phineas Sospeter, Head of the Ministry of Health's Safe Motherhood Program, who emphasised that it is in line with government initiatives to reduce maternal and newborn fatalities nationwide.

Kongwa District has set aside 492.3 million for maternal health campaigns, patient pathway construction, oxygen system installation in maternity wards and the purchase of medical equipment and an ambulance for four locations, including the District Hospital, during the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

Mpwapwa District has also allocated 556.5m/-to support eight facilities, including the Mpwapwa District Hospital and important health centres, by purchasing medical equipment, maternal health education, two generators and one ambulance.

Beginning in 2021 and ending in 2026, the five-year project will represent a major turning point in Tanzania's progress in maternal and child health services.
