Kenya Government Unveils Sh3 Billion Housing, Power and Market Projects in Wajir

Posted on : Tuesday , 2nd September 2025

The Government of Kenya has unveiled a Sh3 billion construction programme in Wajir County aimed at accelerating socio-economic transformation in Northern Kenya through the development of key infrastructures.

Speaking during the launch in Tarbaj Constituency, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki underscored the Government’s commitment to improving livelihoods through affordable housing projects, modern markets, student hostels, and hybrid power plant infrastructure.

In Tarbaj Constituency alone, an investment of Sh556 million will support construction works linked to electricity expansion, ensuring households and businesses gain access to reliable and sustainable infrastructure.

The Deputy President highlighted that the housing and hostel projects will not only provide decent and affordable shelter but also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the youth, strengthening the region’s economic base.

Leaders from Wajir, including Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Woman Representative Hon. Fatuma Abdi Jehow, reaffirmed their support for the programme, pledging close collaboration with the Ministry of Housing & Infrastructure to ensure timely delivery and long-term impact.

This initiative marks a significant step in addressing infrastructure gaps in Northern Kenya and aligns with the Government’s broader agenda of affordable housing, energy connectivity, and inclusive regional development.
