A Tanzanian Government Project Has Raised $200 Billion to Improve Access to Water

Posted on : Monday , 4th August 2025

According to the Dar es Salaam Water and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA), women no longer have to trek great distances to find water because of the "Kumtua Mama Ndoo Kichwani" program.

The campaign has helped mobilize 200 billion dollars, which is being used to implement water projects throughout the nation.

Numerous water projects around the country have been made possible by the "Kumtua Mama Ndoo Kichwani" campaign. According to him, communities that previously had severe and protracted water shortages are now enjoying better access, and these difficulties are soon to be forgotten.

Additionally, he stated that the 10.6 billion dollar Kisarawe Water Project is still in construction and moving forward according to schedule.

The government's long-term goal of guaranteeing access to clean water in both urban and rural regions, cutting down on the amount of time women and girls spend fetching water, and enhancing their general quality of life is in line with these programs, Eng Bwire emphasized.

More community members who directly benefit from the programs should be included in DAWASA's project evaluations, he recommended.

Evaluations must to include the opinions of locals who live with the effects of these projects on a daily basis in addition to technical advancements. To improve service delivery, their input is crucial, Mr. Kunenge stated.

With clean water coverage already at 93% in urban areas and 83% in rural communities, the Coast Region has made impressive strides in improving access to water, according to Eng Bwire.
