Fixo Solutions has revealed its plans to incorporate trained technicians from WTS Foundation into Fixo’s platform, granting them direct access to employment opportunities throughout Kenya.
This partnership marks a significant achievement for Fixo Solutions since its inception at the beginning of this year, as it broadens its e-hailing services to include specialized solar installation experts in addition to conventional handyman services. For WTS Foundation, which has trained 250 solar technicians to date, this collaboration provides a complete solution, allowing the newly certified technicians to find a route to consistent and rewarding employment.
"Our collaboration with WTS Foundation is based on a shared objective of establishing a framework and developing a platform for sustainable expansion in a sector with significant untapped potential; handyman services in Kenya have traditionally functioned sporadically, with as many as 80% of skilled handymen finding work through informal means," stated Levi Nyakundi, Founder and CEO of Fixo Solutions.
“The inclusion of solar installation technicians into the Fixo platform signifies a new stage in our ongoing journey and offers a distinct opportunity that enhances access to expert solar installation services nationwide,†he stated.
The WTS Foundation aims to train 640 graduates in electrical and electronics engineering, as well as mechanical engineering, from universities and other institutions. "Collaborating with Fixo Solutions is transformative, allowing our skilled technicians to secure meaningful employment right after they finish their training," stated Jose Rivera, the General Manager of TMS Foundation.
"Kenya is leading the way in advocating for renewable energy, aiming to produce all its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Our solar installation training program offers specialized education tailored to equip individuals for the growing job opportunities in the energy industry. Through this new collaboration, we are excited to create a route for our recent graduates to enter the workforce,†he stated.
The solar installation training is endorsed by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). Before participating, technicians must complete the NITA PV Solar Installation Trade Test. Equipped with knowledge in solar photovoltaic (PV) installation, wiring, and appliance setup, the trained technicians are eligible to apply for licenses from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
The addition of solar installation technicians to the Fixo platform is anticipated to improve service accessibility for clients and offer technicians environmentally friendly work processes.
