DODOMA: The government plans to proceed with the implementation of 27 energy-related priority projects, which are at various stages of development, under the 2025–2026 National Development Plan.

By connecting 26 regions to the national grid, expanding the system to 9,351 km, lowering electricity losses to 7.9 percent, and increasing electricity access to 85 percent of the population, these projects seek to enhance electricity production by 4,915 MW.

Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of State in the President's Office for Planning and Investment, provided this information in Dodoma as he presented the economic situation and the main goals of the National Development Plan for 2025–2026.

"Projects in the energy sector are intended to support wider economic activities, improve access to social services, promote business development, and increase industrial output," Prof. Kitila Mkumbo stated.

Among the major initiatives are the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity in both urban and rural regions; the exploration and development of natural gas and oil in important blocks; the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in automobiles; and the expansion of natural gas distribution.

Prof. Mkumbo also said that the government will continue to carry out seven information technology and communication projects in 2025–2026, with a special emphasis on six high-priority projects.
