Kenya Kericho County Funds the Kipsigori Dam Water Project with Sh18.6 Million

Posted on : Tuesday , 1st April 2025

To increase residents' access to clean water, the Kericho County administration has spent Sh18.6 million to expand the Kipsigori Dam Water Project in Kedowa Kimugul Ward, Kipkelion East Sub-County.

The initiative includes important improvements like desilting, rehabilitation, the installation of a solar-powered pump, the construction of an 8-kilometer pipeline, the erection of raised steel tanks, and the completion of two 100-cubic-meter water storage tanks, Kericho Governor Dr. Eric Mutai noted during the project's commissioning.

Over 5,000 people in 13 communities in the Kiprengwe Sub-location would benefit from the extended Kipsigori Dam, Governor Mutai stressed, along with three institutions, including a dispensary.

Additionally, he pointed out that parts of Chepseon Ward, including the Sabunit community, will also gain access to the improved water supply.

Since this project is essential to giving our people access to safe drinking water, the contractor must move quickly to ensure that it is completed on schedule. With more than 40 projects now under way, my administration is unwavering in its resolve to increase water availability throughout Kericho County, Governor Mutai stated.

In addition, Governor Mutai gave an update on the Kedowa Milling Plant, one of his major flagship projects, stating that the plant's structure is now finished and that plans are in motion for the second phase, which will involve the expansion of the facility to include two warehouses and an administrative unit as well as the bidding of milling equipment.

Dr. Mutai went on to say that after the milling plant is fully operating, it will improve value for our farmers by reducing post-harvest losses and generating job possibilities.

The two-day Field Day and Tea Industry Agricultural Exhibition, with the subject "Advancing Agricultural Innovation for Resilient Food Systems and Sustainable Livelihoods," was formally launched by Dr. Mutai earlier in the day.

Through KALRO, he praised the Tea Research Institute for its efforts in creating drought-resistant, high-yielding tea clones that enhance the standard of living for nearby farmers.

I spoke with stakeholders, industry professionals, and farmers to find doable solutions to improve tea farming. In addition, he said, I urged farmers to seize the chances offered by new systems and technology, which are essential to developing our agriculture industry.

Other local leaders attended the occasion, including Lands CECM Joseph Korir and Agriculture County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Magerer Langat.
