A September quarter report outlining operations at its Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine in Tanzania was recently made accessible by Walkabout Resources Ltd. "The first quarter of ramp-up has demonstrated that the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine produces a sought-after, high-quality graphite product, with demand exceeding our forecasted production for the remainder of the year," said Andrew Cunningham, managing director and CEO of Walkabout, in a summary of the quarter's performance. Within the following several months, our staff will be able to realize full production capacity thanks to their hard work in increasing production. Mining operations were able to keep stockpile levels at around 40,000 metric tons during the quarter, with an average grade of 15.33% total graphite content (TGC). The major objectives of mining operations were to produce enough waste material for the ongoing construction of the tailings storage facility (TSF) and to maintain ROM stockpiles at 35–40,000 tonnes of medium and high-grade ore.
Mining activities were mainly concentrated on creating enough waste material for the ongoing construction of the tailings storage facility (TSF) and keeping ROM stockpiles at 35–40,000 tonnes of medium- and high-grade ore. In comparison to the DFS mineral resource block model, the Lindi Jumbo graphite deposit has shown positive growth in both tonnage and grade, making mining there very predictable. This has allowed the business to reach its targeted graphite output with less ore mining, which has decreased the costs per tonne and has resulted in a higher-than-expected contained graphite delivery to the ROM pad. According to Walkabout, new Lindi Jumbo reserve and resource statements will reflect these efficiencies.
As production ramped up, 3,009 tons of saleable bagged graphite concentrate were produced during the quarter. Since the first bag till the end of Q3, the company has produced 3,349 metric tons of graphite concentrate. Despite feed rate constraints, Walkabout reports that average output exceeded 50 tonnes of graphite concentrate per day in August and after the September plant closure. Since the reporting period, daily production has increased to 90 tonnes of bagged graphite concentrate, or about 80% of the targeted production per day. In the final concentrate, the majority of the coarse flake material (180 microns) surpasses 94% TGC. Since the processing team has effectively maintained stability and continuity in the processing plant's concentrator section. At the conclusion of the quarter, Walkabout exported 13 containers totaling 331 metric tons, mostly made up of small flake and unsorted coarse flake from the Lindi Jumbo plant's initial production. According to the corporation, final pricing is in line with confirmed shipping and contract terms, and demand is still high, with 2024 orders exceeding anticipated output.
