Water Mission Secures $1 Million Grant for Water Projects in Tanzania and Uganda

Over 53,000 individuals in Tanzania and Uganda will benefit from a safe water program grant that Water Mission and The Coca-Cola Foundation are working on together. Over the following two years, the $1 million funding will support ongoing infrastructure initiatives for safe water and sanitation in Tanzania's Dodoma region and Uganda's eastern region.

Water Mission coordinates with state, municipal, and federal agencies to pinpoint the locations with the worst conditions for access to clean water, then concentrates project efforts there. Utilizing solar-powered water systems, the organization generates energy via a pump that purifies water according to its requirements and quality. This can include anything from filtration to water disinfection systems, depending on what the water requires in order to ensure that it satisfies WHO requirements.

The president of The Coca-Cola Foundation, Saadia Madsbjerg, stated, "The Coca-Cola Foundation is committed to bringing safe water to water stressed communities nationwide." The completion of project work in the Tanzanian districts of Bahi and Chamwino, as well as the Ugandan districts of Luuka and Buyende, excites us because safe water availability transforms communities.

Our work on the clean water project may now move more quickly thanks to the award from the Coca-Cola Foundation," stated Water Mission's CEO and President, George Greene IV, PE. We will use this donation to give the people of Tanzania and Uganda access to clean water, sanitary conditions, and good hygiene. We value the confidence placed in us by The Coca-Cola Foundation.

In the past year, Water Mission has provided safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions to over 1.9 million people; since its establishment, it has served over 8 million. The organization was just awarded its 17th straight Four-Star Rating by Charity Navigator, which puts it in a select club of organizations that are annually assessed by the biggest and most widely used independent charity evaluator in America.
