Through all of its operations, environmental sustainability. Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) in Kenya intends to reach this. The largest Coca-Cola bottler in Africa, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa's Kenyan affiliate plans to invest $2 million to upgrade the wastewater treatment facility close to its Equator Bottlers facility in Kisumu, western Kenya. The goal is to increase both the quantity and quality of water used at the factory to make soft drinks. CCBA_ Kenya currently produces 1.5 billion cases of units annually, reaching over 600,000 retailers.

In compliance with the ISO 14001 environmental management system, the new project entails equipment and associated accessories for primary and secondary treatment at the Kisumu water treatment facility.

An eco-responsible approach

The project will also allow for the drying of sludge from wastewater treatment at the Equator Bottlers plant, says CCBA-Kenya. This is one of several projects initiated by US soft drinks giant CCBA to strengthen its eco-friendly approach in Kenya, as well as in several other African countries.

For instance, its local affiliate in Uganda is assisting in the growth of the circular economy. The industry crushes up plastic bottles into granules that are then reused as a raw material for creating furniture like chairs and crates for milk and beer bottles. In Kampala, Uganda's capital, 833 families already have profited from the effort.
