A memorandum of understanding is signed for Manufacturing of Medical Equipments Locally in Ethiopia

The MoU was signed between the ministries of Innovation & Technology, Health, and Trade & Industry and also Investment Commission.

 

It is a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will enable government institutions to work in collaboration to understand the need of manufacturing of medical equipments locally.

 

It is said to help to mobilize efforts in encouraging innovation among the youth and promote entrepreneurs and the private sector to engage in the manufacturing of the equipments.

 

Dr. Amir Aman, Minister of Health, while speaking on the occasion, explained that, "the importance to join hands in encouraging entrepreneurs and the private sector is to engage in the field".

 

"The MoU will give an opportunity for stakeholders to work in cooperation to create the ability to locally manufacture medical equipments", added Dr. Amir Aman.

 

Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology, said, "the MoU is a crucial step in understanding import substitution in some types of medical equipments."

 

Minister of Trade and Industry, Fetlework Gebregziabher, said, "her ministry will support the private sector to engage in the manufacturing of the equipments and also the government will work to create market linkage for the companies."

 

"The development of an industrial park allocated to the health sector is well in progress; The industrial park is among the responsibilities taken by the government in promoting the private sector engage in the manufacturing of equipments along with the production of medications", added Ethiopian Investment Commissioner, Abebe Abebayehu.

 

The Commission will support companies by creating market linkage as well as smoothening situations that will help them form joint ventures with foreign companies.
