Joy has been brought to the faces of many residents and road users in the Eastern Region as work is steadily on-going on their roads to make them motorable.
The Mahama led administration in recent times came under serious attacks and criticisms from a cross - section of the public including some traditional rulers in the region who even demonstrated against it to fix the roads.
The joy of the people was noticed when the Regional Minister, Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere inspected the progress of work on the roads especially those captured under the "Cocoa Roads Project".
Accompanied by a team of Engineers from the Ghana Highway Authority, Feeder Roads and Department of Urban Roads, the minister inspected the partial reconstruction of a 33.6 kilometer Suhum - Asamankese road, a 24 kilometer Adieso -Asamankese road, and a 10 kilometre Asamankese - Osenase - Akwatia road.
He also inspected the upgrading of Aburi - Nsawam road, Aburi town roads, Asamankese town roads and 7.4 million Ghana cedi 5 kilometer Suhum town roads. Mr Sekyere said his visit was also to have firsthand information on the projects and interact with the contractors to know their challenges for redress.
He however expressed happiness at the level of work done and encouraged the contractors to work to specification given them for quality and early completion of work. He said this is a fulfilment of President Mahama's promise to the people of the region, to concentrate on their deplorable road network and make it one of his priorities.
He assured that the rest of the roads captured under either the phase one or two of the Cocoa Roads Project would be tackled soon. The Acting Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Emmanuel Laryea Odai said the enthusiasm of the contractors and their workers on site shows that they are up to task and can complete work within the stipulated 18 and 24 months.
According to him, government engineers are always on site to monitor and ensure that the contractors do what is require from them.
