Nigeria seals $17m water construction deal with China s CGC

Nigeria’s Cross River State has signed a $17 million contract for the construction of Ogoja Water scheme with a Chinese firm CGC.The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Etowa Elemi, signed the contract on behalf of the state government while the Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ye Sejiun, signed on behalf of the Chinese company.
 
Speaking at the signing ceremony on Friday in Calabar, the state capital, Governor Liyel Imoke said that the provision of potable water and access to water had been on top of the agenda of the state government.
 
He stated that the water project would cover not just Ogoja, but Bekwara and Yala Local government Areas as well.
 
Imoke said when the project was completed; it would increase access to potable water in the state to about 80 percent.
 
In his remarks, the Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Mr. Sejiun, said that the project was expected to be complete in 18 months.
