Delphi Automotive Opens Third Factory in Morocco

Auto parts maker, Delphi Automotive Plc, has opened its third production unit in Kenitra, Morocco. The facility will provide jobs for another 1,700 people, bring the company’s total workforce to about 9000 people.
It also confirms the attractiveness of Morocco’s automotive sector to European manufacturers.
 
“Morocco offers a competitive environment for the manufacturing of automotive components due to its proximity to Europe, infrastructure, qualified manpower and the support of the Moroccan authorities,” said Mike Beckett , Delphi’s CEO for Europe and the MENA region.
 
Delphi began operations in Tangier, Morocco in 1999. In its Tangier facility, it manufactures advanced wiring systems for vehicle manufacturers throughout Europe. In 2008, it opened a second plant in the Tangier Free Zone, providing employments for more than 7,200 people.
 
The automotive part manufacturer recently expanded the capacity of its two other factories in Morocco to enable it manufacture specialist sub-system harnesses and high-precision connection systems next year.
