More than Sh50 million has been made available by the Dutch government to improve the governance frameworks of community water projects in Ghana and Kenya.
Kenya's Sirembe Community water project in Gem constituency would benefit from the funds, which were made available through the Ihe Delft Institute for Water Education, in terms of capacity building.
Dr. Irene Ngunjiri, the head of Strathmore University's water governance and innovation hub, stated that the university was the leading organization in Kenya during an inaugural meeting held at the Sirembe Trading Center.
In order to increase the number of individuals who benefit from community projects, Dr. Ngunjiri stated that the 400,000 Euro project will assist in addressing the issues that have plagued them for a long time.
According to her, the Sirembe Community Water Project in Kenya will be used as a case study to examine the difficulties.
According to her, the project will also teach community members improved management techniques so they can run more sustainably.
Dr. Akosua Boakye, spokesman for Africa at the Ihe Delft Institute for Water Education, stated that the Dutch organization was dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people in rural regions by supplying clean water.
According to Dr. Akosua, the institute has come to the realization that the majority of community members who are entrusted with managing water projects frequently lack the necessary abilities and skills to do the job, which causes the projects to fail.
Speaking at the event, Isaiah Adipo, Managing Director of the Siaya Bondo water and sanitation company (SIBOWASCO), praised the assistance and stated that it will contribute to Siaya's increased water coverage.
Eng. Sam Opot, the patron of the Sirembe community water project, greeted the initiative and stated that the locals were pleased with the help of friends and donors.
