A Saudi Arabian delegation visited GERD and received briefings on the construction of the dam.
A high-level Saudi delegation visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) during its three-day state visit to Ethiopia and received updates by Project Manager Eng. Simegnew Bekele.
The delegation, led by the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Court senior Advisor and Saudi Development Fund Board Chairperson Ahmed Alkhateeb, had discussions with Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, Foreign Minster Dr. Workenh Gebeyehu and other senior government officials.
The visit was aimed at exploring the potential of Ethiopia in the energy sector and discussing ways of cooperation in the development of renewable energy.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation expressed the keen interest the Saudi government has to develop and import energy from Ethiopia.
The delegation comprised of energy, finance and industry sector officials.
Saudi Arabia is the second biggest investor in Ethiopia, with investments totaling over three billion USD.
