The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has partnered with the Standard Group (SG) to register 25 million members from both the formal and informal sectors by the end of June 2016.

NHIF, which was established in 1966 as a department under the Ministry of Health, will use SG’s seven media platforms including Radio Maisha, KTN, KTN NEWS, The Standard, Think Outdoor, The Nairobian and Standard Digital to reach its target.

Speaking at SG headquarters in Nairobi Thursday, NHIF Director Strategy, Planning and Marketing Nicodemus Odongo said: “We value the partnership between us and SG. And we thought it good to leverage on this good relationship by using its various platforms to ensure Kenyans have access to universal health care.”

The new scheme, which has outpatient and inpatient services unlike the old one, targets even those in the informal sector with priority being given to the youth and retirees. SG Head of Marketing Doreen Mbaya said the company will take advantage of its huge online presence to direct fans to NHIF’s products hence increasing awareness.

SG Managing Editor Kipkoech Tanui urged NHIF to ensure there is access to information to ensure the public is not misinformed.

“We believe SG will help us reach our target,” NHIF Acting Marketing and Communication Manager Agnes Tuiyott said.
