The Sudanese Ministry of Petroleum has unveiled a design by Chinese based Lanpec Co. Ltd. for investment in Sudanese oil and gas refineries.
According to a statement by the Ministry the company has visited refineries in Khartoum and Port Sudan over the past period and has promised to conclude a memo of understanding in this regard within 45 days.
Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel-Rahman, State Minister for Oil, noted interest was driven by successful projects by sister Chinese CNPC in Sudan, following a meeting with the delegation of Lanpec.
He said the Ministry’s doors are open to investors and the Ministry is prepared to provide the necessary facilities and support to make efforts successful. The State Minister revealed the two sides debated Lanpec’s desire for investment in Port Sudan Refinery.
The Ministry further announced that the Al-Fula Thermal Station will be operational soon to increase power generation to meet the growing demand for gas.
Mohamed Zayid the Minister of Petroleum announced his Ministry plans to capitalise on gas and oil production to meet domestic need, however he stated such projects warrant a high investment partnership to function properly.
While meeting the Indian Ambassador in Khartoum, the Minister invited India to give investment in the field of petroleum. He disclosed an invitation by the Ambassador to attend a 2-day Hydrocarbons Conference scheduled for next January in New Delhi.
Zayid underlined Sudan’s doors are open to additional Indian investments in the field of petroleum, promising further concessions for interested parties similar to those granted to the Indian Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC).
The Indian Ambassador promised to enhance cooperation between ONGC and Sudanese Ministry Petroleum to further investment through modern and sophisticated technologies.
