1.6 Billion Tons of Oil Reserves in Sudan

Khartoum – Ahmed Jibril Al-Amin, Lecturer at the University of Bahri, has said that Sudan holds oil reserves of 1.6 billion tons, with gas reserves of 6.5 billion cubic feet.

In his paper, (Carbohydrates resources in Sudan) at the UNCTAD conference on oil, gas and mining held currently in Khartoum, Al-Amin reviewed the primary components of basins producing oil and gas in Sudan.

The Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Mukhisa Kituyi, expressed his happiness at the convening of the 17th UNCTAD Conference and the exhibition for oil, gas and minerals in Khartoum.

Addressing the opening session of the conference via satellite from his headquarters in Geneva, he said the UNCTAD group relies heavily on African countries, led by Sudan, to provide sustainable employment opportunities and discuss ways to manufacture their products.

He called on the conference to reach recommendations in the field of creating sustainable jobs to contribute to the development and promotion of their work.

The Chairman of the goods unit for UNCTAD, Samuel Danin, praised the Sudanese government for their commitment and efforts in organising the UNCTAD conference in Khartoum, Sudan. He pointed out that Sudan is a country that will contribute to the creation of long-lasting jobs
