In 2016 Ethiopia imported $17.9B, making it the 75th largest importer in the world. During the last five years the imports of Ethiopia have increased at an annualized rate of 14.7%, from $8.83B in 2011 to $17.9B in 2016.
The top import origins of Ethiopia are China ($5.46B), the United States ($1.54B), India ($1.3B), Kuwait ($1B) and Italy ($700M).

The Government of Ethiopia launches an electronic platform that will enhance efficiency in trade logistics landscape of the country by speeding the customs process for importers and exporters.
It is said will reduce the 44 days hectic long paper work process for importers and exporters to 15 days. Gradually, it is also expected to cut the 15 days to three working days.

The new President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the occasion of her first official visit outside Europe, declared in Addis Ababa a remarkable boost to the EU'' collaboration with Ethiopia.
