The programme "From Loss to Value (L2V)" has received a support from InspiraFarms Cooling, a top provider of cooling solutions for agricultural businesses, exporters, 3PLs, and food distributors throughout Africa.
The project, which is supported by Danida Green Business Partnerships (DGBP), a division of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to build on previous efforts to convince farmer cooperatives of the advantages of effective post-harvest cooling solutions.
The project also aims to create a viable business model and a finance option for smallholder farmers to get through the cost barrier to obtaining cold storage that is energy-efficient. This initiative would decrease post-harvest losses and improve market access for farmers and merchants by making these cold chain solutions available to farmers through Cooling as a Service.
The initiative aims to solve the crucial problem of food loss in Kenya's horticultural industry, which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 7, 8, 12, and 14 of the United Nations. DanChurchAid (DCA), Danfoss, and the Fresh Produce Exporter's Association of Kenya are working together on this project.
InspiraFarms Cooling will offer farmer co-operatives, governments and other traders in the counties of Nakuru and Nyandarua energy-efficient cold rooms together with cutting-edge remote monitoring capabilities. Through the use of environmentally friendly cold chain solutions, this integrated solution will help farmers and traders in Kenya to preserve the quality and freshness of their produce, increase its duration of storage and marketability and decrease food loss and wastage.
