FASTJET Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Nico Bezuidenhout has urged travel agencies to offer more affordable air travel so as to enable entrepreneurs, tourists and other visitors to travel within Africa and boosts the continent's economy.

He said more affordable air travel enable movements of people within the continent and thus easier business transactions among people from different parts of the World. Mr Bezuidenhout said in the statement that was released on Saturday. Emphasizing the importance of travel agencies to the future success of the low-cost carrier.

"To walk the talk, my company has renewed its commitment to the travel trade," he said. One of the initiatives impacting the travel trade, he said, was a global distribution agreement with Amadeus, a leading provider of advanced technology solutions for the global travel industry.

This multi-year agreement will result in African and worldwide Amadeus-connected travel agencies having access to Fastjet's lowfares, availability, and schedules in real time. The Fastjet will be seamlessly integrated into Amadeus at every stage of the reservation process making bookings easier, faster and more productive for the travel trade.

"Our partnership with Amadeus - the world's largest network of travel agencies and corporate travel departments - is a significant development for Fastjet that allows us to broaden our distribution approach to ensure we reach a wider range of business and corporate customers," Bezuidenhout said.

"Low-cost airlines typically operate without substantially engaging with the travel trade, preferring to focus on a direct booking model via their websites," he said, adding: "Fastjet however believes that the travel trade's professional experience and expertise are critical components to the airline's success across the very diverse African markets in which we operate." "We couldn't be more proud that Fastjet have chosen to work with Amadeus as they move into its next phase of growth.

Through continuous investment in technology, we make it easier for both airlines to distribute and for travel agents to book low cost carriers in Amadeus in a faster and more efficient way," Vice President, Africa, Amadeus, Mr Paul de Villiers said.

All of the airline's routes will be listed on Amadeus, as part of a full content agreement, including its domestic Tanzanian routes between Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Zanzibar.
