New drug rehab centre slated for East Rand

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is set to unveil a new, community-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Daveyton.


The new centre will be housed in what was formerly the Daveyton Extension Clinic, according to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipal Spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

Zambia: 650 Health Posts to Be Ready in April

The Government has said construction of the 650 health posts across the country would be completed in April this year.

 
Health Deputy Minister Chitalu Chilufya said Government was committed to ensuring that health posts are completed and handed over to the public by April.
 
Dr Chilufya said his ministry would this week commission one of the ten newly completed health posts out of the 650 constructed nationwide.

Kenya: Crucial TB, Meningitis Vaccine to Arrive mid Jan

Relief as shortage of vaccine protecting children from contracting Tuberculosis (TB) and meningitis to arrive on Friday.

The Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine ran out in November 2015 prompting an emergency supply of about 1.3 million doses.
 
Head of the Immunisation Technical Group at the ministry Collins Tabu told the Nation that the vaccine would be distributed to health hospitals countrywide "as soon as possible".

Rapid SMS System Has Improved Healthcare

When the Ministry of Health introduced the Rapid SMS system about seven years ago, the number of women giving birth in hospitals was low, and infant mortality rate was high. Health officials also say traditional birth attendants, who lacked expertise to handle infections or complications, performed most of the deliveries before the programme was implemented.

Wali of Khartoum State Says New Tuberculosis Hospital Will Be Set Up

Khartoum — A new tuberculosis hospital with specification that provides full care for patients will be erected, Wali(governor) of Khartoum State, Lt. Gen. Abdul-Rahim Mohammed Hussein announced.

 
He commended during his inspection visit to Abu Anja Hospital as part of his tour to Omdurman Locality Tuesday, the great efforts being made by workers at Abu Anja Hospital for Respiratory Diseases, saying the workers deserve special treatment.

China-Africa Industrial Capacity Cooperation Fund Starts Operation

A China-Africa industrial capacity cooperation fund, designed to aid Africa's development, is now active, China's central bank said Thursday.

 
The fund, with an initial capital of 10 billion U.S. dollars, will mainly invest in sectors like manufacturing, hi-tech, agriculture, energy, infrastructure construction and finance in African countries, the People's Bank of China said in a statement on its website.

Plans to implement nuclear build programme in Africa look promising

 The department of energy has issued clarification to reports that the government and cabinet have made final the verdict to implement the nuclear build programme in South Africa.

 
In a statement, the department said the move to go ahead developing the nuclear new build programme was initiated by the cabinet in June 2015 prompting South Africa to proceed with developing a programme for the procurement of nuclear power plants worth 9.6GW.

Construction industry in Kenya posts impressive growth

 The construction industry in Kenya defied high interest rates to post impressive growth, a new report by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) reveals.

 
Data released by KNBS, reveals that the sector grew by 14.1 per cent in the third quarter of 2015 compared to 8.8 per cent over a similar period in 2015.
 
Construction loans to the sector grew by Sh22 billion (or 28 per cent) from Sh79 billion to Sh101 billion duri.... Read more »
