Yara Ghana, a leading supplier of quality fertilizers, has initiated moves to partner the government's new agricultural program known as Plant For Food and  Jobs.

This as a result of the company's belief that the program will benefit the nation in the area of food security.
Already Yara's fertilizers have been selected by the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the preparation to kick start of the program in September this year.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr Danquah Addo-Yobo at the company's stake holder meeting organized for farmers and agricultural scientists in Accra.
The company has been supplying high-quality products for various crop areas such as cereal farmers as well as the cocoa sector.

According to him, the mother company, Yara International ASA, has been operating in Africa for more than 30 years, with offices in Cote D'ivoire, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and The Zambia Cluster, which includes Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

The Business Unit Head Quarters is situated in Johannesburg, South Africa. Yara has been in operation in Ghana for the past 10 years.

He noted that since its inception in 2007, Yara Ghana has strengthened the quality and depth of input supply and related services, along agricultural value chains to increase the productivity of Ghanaian farmers.

"We are a key partner in many initiatives for Ghanaian agricultural and economic transformation. Yara's commitment goes to the homes of farmers and we believe in building alliances and partnerships to bring this to fruition" said Mr Addo-Yobo.

On job creation Mr Addo-Yobo said the company has an extensive national distribution network, working with over 300 distributors and retailers, creating local employment in the value chain while making available and accessible to farmers, quality fertilizers.

The company in 2016 embarked on the Healthier Cocoa Campaign which trained 300 cocoa farmers on best practices in 16 districts in the Eastern Region through a partnership with USAI/ADVANCL.

The company again partnered with John Deere to do demonstration farms to show the impact of mechanization and good crop nutrition on profitability.
