Msalato Airport Enters Final Leg Ahead of December

Construction of the Msalato International Airport in Dodoma, Tanzania, is progressing strongly, with the major infrastructure package now 89.02 per cent complete and the buildings package reaching 78.37 per cent. The project represents a significant investment in Tanzania’s aviation infrastructure and is set to introduce modern airport facilities to the capital city.

Infrastructure development has achieved impressive milestones, with the 3,600-metre runway 98 per cent complete, while the taxiways and aircraft apron have each reached 99 per cent completion. Access and internal roads, vehicle parking areas and the water supply system are also advancing steadily, alongside electrical works and aircraft guidance systems, which have reached 90 per cent completion.

Building construction is similarly making strong progress across the airport complex. The passenger terminal is 81 per cent complete, while the air traffic control tower has reached 74 per cent, the fire station 88 per cent and the meteorological services building 87 per cent. The project is being delivered through two major packages covering infrastructure and buildings, with completion targeted for the coming months.

The development is also generating significant employment and supporting local participation in the construction sector. More than 9,000 Tanzanian workers have been engaged across the two project packages, providing valuable employment and on-site experience as the airport moves towards completion.

Designed to Category 4E standards under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Msalato International Airport will feature a 3,600-metre runway and is expected to accommodate up to 1.5 million passengers annually, including large aircraft such as Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Once operational, the modern facility is expected to create new opportunities across construction, trade, logistics, tourism, investment and related businesses in Dodoma.
