Kirinyaga County Accelerates 24-Hour Economy via Strategic Infrastructure Investment

Following the implementation of street illumination and floodlight projects throughout key towns and trading centres, Kirinyaga County is witnessing an increase in midnight business activity. A transition into a 24-hour economy has been made feasible by the county government's program.

In the county's towns, malls, and marketplaces, more than 165 illumination have been installed. The intervention, which was carried out by Kirinyaga County's Ministry of Transportation, Roads, Public Works, and Housing, greatly improved security and enabled traders to extend their business hours; some are now open until midnight, while others are open all night.

As stated by Jared Migwi, a member of the County Executive Committee for Roads, Transportation, Public Works, and Housing, the program is intended to improve the economic climate by facilitating longer trade hours and boosting safety. According to Migwi, the goal is to illuminate the county to promote business, enhance security, and eventually enhance livelihood and the local economy.

According to him, the lighting scheme enhances other major initiatives, such as the Sagana Industrial Park's continuing construction. Residents and traders around the country claim that the effects are already visible. As night-time trade grows, many claim better safety, more customers, and more incomes.

In accordance with Ngurubani market vendor Jennifer Waruguru, the new lighting has improved business conditions. According to Eunice Kiragu, dealers are now having more operational freedom and peace of mind. As stated by the county government, the lighting program will continue to grow as part of initiatives to boost local livelihoods and urban economies.
