A Sh5 million water project that will serve at least 800 homes in Chulaimbo was completed thanks to a collaboration between Gersthofen and Kisumu County.
Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (KIWASCO) will oversee the project, which was introduced on Wednesday by Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili and Gersthofen First Mayor Michael Wörle. It is anticipated to increase access to quality piped water in Kisumu West.
A memorandum of understanding between Kisumu and Gersthofen was signed by the county administration a year ago, with the goal of fostering cooperation in important areas including water, the environment, and skill development.
According to Dr. Owili, the project is a component of that larger collaboration, which aims to provide access to necessary services despite the county's limited resources.
It's possible that the counties' available resource envelope won't be sufficient to support every initiative we wish to carry out. These kinds of partnerships are essential because they help close that gap, according to Owili.
The Chulaimbo project is the first significant result of the collaboration, he said, adding that the borehole inside the Chulaimbo Sub-County Hospital has already been extended to Chulaimbo Secondary School and connected to previously underserved areas of the institution.
He stated that the institution, which has over 1,700 students and employees, will profit from an enhanced water supply, which will lessen the need for pupils to travel great distances in search of water.
According to Owili, the initiative will also benefit the larger community by adding more residential connections and water points.
In order to help the community, we have decided to pipe the water to two more water stations. Additionally, residents are urged to install meters through KIWASCO and connect directly, he stated.
