Ministry of Minerals Charts Strategic Plan for Economic Growth in Dodoma Session

Senior experts and policymakers from the Ministry of Minerals have convened for a high-level consultative session to deliberate on a transformative strategic plan designed to maximize the mining sector’s contribution to the national economy. The meeting, held in the capital city, represents a proactive step toward ensuring that Tanzania’s vast mineral wealth translates into sustainable fiscal growth and tangible benefits for its citizens.

During the deliberations, the panel focused on several high-productivity pillars essential for the sector's evolution. Central to the discussion was the concept of mineral value addition, moving the nation away from the export of raw materials toward domestic processing and refining. Additionally, the experts highlighted the necessity of significant technology investment to modernize extraction methods and the urgent need to improve the overall mining business environment to attract both local and foreign investors.

Addressing the delegates, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Eng. Yahya Samamba, underscored the imperative of prudent resource management. He emphasized that the new strategic roadmap must be meticulously aligned with the National Development Vision 2050. According to Eng. Samamba, the goal is to cultivate a sector that is not only internationally competitive but also deeply integrated into the local economy to ensure maximum public benefit.

Supporting this vision, the Commissioner for Minerals, Dr. AbdulRahman Mwanga, noted that the rigorous implementation of these strategies would foster a culture of transparency and accountability. By asserting stronger regulatory control over mining activities and trade, the government aims to significantly boost productivity and increase state revenues, ultimately securing the sector's role as a primary engine of national prosperity.
