Makueni Drives Kenya Transition Towards Sustainable and Dependable Lighting Solutions

In an effort to strengthen its position as a national leader in Kenya's shift to green energy lighting facility, Makueni County is implementing an ambitious new Lighting strategy. The policy's objective is to provide households, schools, health centers, and businesses across its six sub-counties with power lighting that is clean, cost-effective, and reliable.

By 2030, universal energy lighting access is the ultimate objective. With goals like developing energy lighting solutions, guaranteeing adherence to federal regulations, and tackling regional lighting issues, this strategy is focused on delivering clean, sustainable, dependable, and reasonably priced energy.

On Tuesday, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. presented the lighting Policy 2025 to the public in Wrote. This policy builds upon a series of successful initiatives, including as the expansion of access to the lighting grid, the installation of 44 solar lighting panels, and the first clean cooking pilot program from the county.

Women continue their businesses late evening, children study under streetlights, and the community thrives in a safer, more vibrant environment. That's how energy justice looks like, Governor Kilonzo stated. Together with the World Resources Institute, Strathmore University, UK PACT, and Just Energy Lighting Transition Africa, the new strategy was created.

The Makueni County Energy lighting Plan 2023–2032 is followed by the policy, which is already having an impact on the fields of gender, trade, agriculture, water, and health. Dr. Rebekah Shirley of the World Resources Institute and Prof. Izael Da Silva of Strathmore University complimented Makueni for developing lighting solutions that are suited to regional need.
