The 2.9 MW rooftop solar installed by Orb Energy at Kenya's Mabati Rolling Mills will increase clean energy while lowering expenses.
In order to develop a 2.9 MW rooftop solar system at Mabati Rolling Mills' (MRM) Mariakani factory, Orb Energy has teamed with MRM. More than 4,200 MWh of electricity will be produced by the system each year, which will lessen dependency on the national grid and save operating expenses.
The project, which is funded by GridX Africa, intends to lower carbon emissions and increase MRM's energy efficiency. The solar installation is expected to save around $300,000 annually and prevent about 3,800 tons of COâ‚‚ emissions annually. India supplied the components, and Orb Energy's Kenyan affiliate handled local implementation.
A larger initiative to encourage the use of renewable energy in Africa's industrial sector is behind the action. It is anticipated that the installation will help MRM achieve its sustainability goals by incorporating clean energy into its operations and improving energy security in the face of escalating electricity prices worldwide.
According to industry analysts, these massive solar installations showcase how energy-intensive sectors may remain competitive while also addressing climate change. MRM and other businesses can better meet national and global sustainability goals, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, by lowering their reliance on electricity generated by fossil fuels.
In Kenya, rooftop solar is becoming more and more popular as an approach of managing industrial energy. The Mariakani project serves as an example for other industries looking to strike a balance between environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
