A 4.8 billion dollar rainwater filtering facility is being funded by the Barrick-Buzwagi Mine, which is nearing the conclusion of its closure phase, to supply Mwendakulima and the rest of Kahama with safe and clean water.
During the Uhuru Torch reception and foundation stone laying ceremony, Buzwagi Mine Closure Manager Zonnastraal Mumbi stated that although the mine is in its closure phase, it has chosen to support the project to solve water access concerns in Kahama District.
One of the results of the mine's closure procedure is this. To harvest, collect, and deliver water to Kahama inhabitants, the project entails building rainwater infrastructure, according to Mr. Mumbi.
Twiga Minerals, a joint venture between Barrick and the government, includes Buzwagi Mine. Bulyanhulu in Shinyanga and North Mara in Tarime, Mara Region, are two more mines under Twiga.
"To guarantee the construction of contemporary, superior infrastructure that provides long-term advantages to the residents of Kahama, Bugwagi Mine has provided funding for 62% of this rainwater project," he stated.
He stated that KUWASA will pay 38% of the remaining funds through the Ministry of Water, and that the project is anticipated to be finished by December of this year, with 78% of the work already completed.
More than 66% of Kahama Municipal residents are anticipated to benefit from the Mwendakulima rainwater filtration project, which has the potential to generate 10 million liters of water daily.
Ismail Ali Ussi, the national relay leader for the Uhuru Torch, praised the Ministry of Water for successfully implementing the government's goal of relieving women's burdens by guaranteeing access to water services in both urban and rural regions.
He stated, "I want to congratulate all of the Ministry and Water Authorities experts here in Kahama for tirelessly working day and night to provide Tanzanians with safe and clean water."
Frank Nkinda, the district commissioner for Kahama, emphasized the value of putting in a lot of effort and maintaining the momentum when undertaking development projects in order to satisfy the high demands of the population.
