SHA is Dedicated to Providing Fair and Affordable Healthcare

Posted on : Monday , 10th March 2025

The Social Health Authority (SHA), according to President William Ruto, is dedicated to guaranteeing fair and reasonably priced access to healthcare.

According to the President, the new care will propel the nation closer to attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC), especially when combined with the work of Community Health Promoters (CHP).

In order to take advantage of this revolutionary healthcare program, the Head of State encouraged Kenyans to disregard the doubters and sign up in big numbers with SHA.

He was addressing at the Mkogani Sub-County Hospital in Kwale County when he formally opened the Theatre Block and set the foundation stone for the X-Ray Block.

He pointed out that the facility's conversion from Level III to Level IV will greatly improve local access to healthcare.

President Ruto has reiterated the federal government's resolve to work with local governments to enhance healthcare services nationwide.

"To help upgrade this hospital further so that residents can receive good services, I will give your governor Sh 30 million," Ruto continued.

In order to increase access to high-quality healthcare at the local level, he said the central government would collaborate closely with the devolved governments to build cutting-edge healthcare infrastructure.

The improvements and new projects started by the County government are anticipated to lessen the strain on the inhabitants to go in search of specialised treatment and medication, according to Area Governor Fatuma Achani, who called the improvements a "game changer."

Over 1500 expectant mothers will now receive monthly specialised consultant services from the Mkongani level 4 Hospital, according to Governor Achani. This will help to reduce the mobility and mortality of pregnant women by intervening early in the pregnancy.

By boosting local companies and drawing in a diverse pool of healthcare professionals, she claims that hospital upgrades are positioned to bring about multiple socioeconomic benefits in addition to better health outcomes.

This upgrading would reduce referrals to other hospitals by allowing the hospital to do major surgeries and specialised medical care, according to the coastal county boss.

According to her, the clinic, which serves more than 10,000 people in eight communities, including Mkongani A, Mkongani B, Umurira and Goyo, will now carry out major surgical procedures like appendicectomies, caesarean sections, and hernia repairs.

"Surgical interventions will be managed on-site without referring to Kwale Hospital, which is 40 kilometres away, thanks to Mkongani Hospital's theatre and medical officers," she stated.

According to her administration, Kwale, Lungalunga, Samburu and Kinango hospitals have been upgraded to level 4 facilities, while Msambweni hospital has been transformed into a referral hospital that can handle specialised treatment, such as a specialised dental unit that offers specialised antenatal care, kidney dialysis, tuberculosis culture, smear microscopy and intensive care medicine, among other specialised services.

By building and equipping medical facilities and hiring enough medical professionals, Achani added, her administration has improved access to healthcare in Wanainchi.

"To guarantee that residents can easily access healthcare, we have constructed more than 178 dispensaries and hired more than 1800 health professionals and more than 1600 community health workers throughout the County," she stated.

According to her, citizens no longer have to travel far to get to the closest clinics or hospitals, unlike when devolution was implemented in 2013.

In order to defend the enormous expenditures made on hospital renovations and the purchase of cutting-edge technology, Achani has urged the locals to use the public hospitals.
