The 370-kilowatt Oda Solar Power Project, which cost Birr 195 million to build, was formally opened in Medewelabu Woreda, East Borena Zone, Oromia Regional State.
Dr. Sultan Wali, the State Minister of Water and Energy, underlined during the inauguration that the project will supply power to almost 15,000 people living in rural areas. According to him, this development is anticipated to boost economic activity in both urban and rural areas and provide a large number of work chances for young people in the area. In order to guarantee the appropriate use and upkeep of the solar power infrastructure, Dr. Sultan asked the community to embrace a sense of ownership.
The facility must be maintained in order to ensure the region's long-term access to electrical services, according to Engineer Million Bekele, Head of the Oromia Regional Water and Energy Bureau.
The German International Development Cooperation (GIZ), the European Union, the Oromia Regional Water and Energy Bureau, and the Ministry of Water and Energy collaborated to develop the Oda Solar Power Project.
