Tanzania opens a facility for mining and industrial equipment parts.

With the opening of the state-of-the-art East Africa Conveyor Supplies Limited (EACS) facility in Kahama District, Shinyanga Region, Tanzania has made great progress in the production of mining and industrial equipment parts.

Speaking at the facility in the Buzwagi Special Economic Zone, EACS Managing Director Peter Kumalilwa stated that the facility specializes in offering premium conveyor belts, rollers, and splicing materials, among other solutions specifically designed for the mining sector.

"We play a vital role in improving the efficiency and safety of operations throughout Tanzania," he said during the Tanzania Mining Commission's visit to the facility on Thursday. "The 50-50 joint venture between Tanzanians and foreign investors began operations in May 2023." Mr. Kumalilwa added that the plant presently manufactures a variety of parts, such as steel drop brackets, impact conveyor rollers, plastic, steel roller caps, and steel conveyor frames.

According to him, the products are delivered to mines in neighboring countries including Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as to several mines in Tanzania, including Barrick North Mara, Barrick Bulyanhulu, and Buckreef.

According to Mr. Kumalilwa, the plant uses cutting-edge technology to guarantee that its goods fulfill international quality requirements. He went on to say that most of the factory's raw materials, such steel and rebar, come from domestic businesses, which helps Tanzania's manufacturing industry expand and lessens its dependency on imported components.

"A wide spectrum of customers have been drawn to EACS's high-quality products, and the company is considering expanding into West African markets." In order to enable Tanzanians to effectively compete with foreign investors, Mr. Kumalilwa urged financial institutions to promote local manufacturers by offering loans that are cheap.

Winnifrida Mrema, the district mining officer for Kahama, stated that the facility would aid in the development of the former Buzwagi mine. "The factory will make it easier to obtain spare parts that were previously imported, but Tanzanians will have the chance to learn new technologies and skills with the EACS factory.

According to Ms. Mrema, the factory investment is among the biggest in the nation and would give Tanzanians access to jobs and economic prospects. "Tanzania's mining and industrial sector will benefit greatly from the construction of the EACS factory, which will also allow Tanzanians to take advantage of investment opportunities in the Special Economic Zone.

"I invite investors to invest in this area as a variety of industries will be established in this zone to optimize land use and protect jobs for the benefit of the entire economic value chain in Kahama town," Mumbi stated.
