The state Russian health agency Rospotrebnadzor announced on social media following the visit of the agency's delegation to the East African state that Russia and Ethiopia have decided to undertake collaborative scientific research, including assistance for the Ethiopian side to develop laboratories and increase the African country's capacity to prepare for epidemics.
The nations also talked about potential areas of collaboration in the area of sanitary and epidemic welfare, as well as issues pertaining to infectious threat response and prevention.
Regarding other healthcare collaboration initiatives between Russia and Africa, the Russian state enterprise Rostec recently announced that it assisted Zimbabwe in establishing the first air ambulance service on the continent. Furthermore, the Algerian Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA) and Rosatom, the state nuclear energy corporation of Russia, signed a memorandum of understanding in September to carry out cooperative projects aimed at developing nuclear medicine.
