Portuguese construction firm to build new international airport in Rwanda

 African branch of Mota-Engil, Portugal’s building company, concluded a contract with the authorities of Rwanda for the construction of Bugesera International Airport in this African country, Reuters reports on Monday.

 
The project is estimated at $818 million.
 
This move is aimed at increasing Rwanda’s attractiveness as a tourist destination, as well as a place hosting events. The first phase of the airport will cost $418 million and is scheduled to be launched next summer. According to the plan, the first phase with a capacity of 1.7 million passengers is to be completed by the end of 2018.
 
Rwandan authorities said that Mota-Engil would operate the airport for 25 years, given that the term might be extended for another 15 years.
