Ethiopia: Corporation Allocates 1 Bln. Usd for Industrial Parks

Industrial Parks Development Corporation announced that it has allocated one billion USD to construct over ten parks in Adama, Makalle, Kombolcha, Jimma and Bahir Dar towns.
Briefing journalists on Corporation current activities yesterday, Corporation CEO with the Rank of State Minister Sisay Gemechu said that the government plans to construct ten new industrial parks in Growth and Transformation Plan II period. The construction of these parks has its own impact in creating jobs for over two million unemployed citizens.
According to him, in the first phase of Bole Lemi Industrial Park, the construction of 20 factory buildings has already been completed. And 11 foreign investors are engaged in shoe manufacturing creating jobs for over 5,000 citizens.
The construction of Bole Lemi phase two project and the newly constructed Qilinto industrial parks will be launched soon following the completion of design and engineering works. He said 186 and 279 hectares of land has been prepared for the two projects respectively.
"Preparation is being made to construct industrial park in Dire Dawa Town on 150 hectares of land. Currently, 15 per cent of the construction on Hawassa Industrial Park has been completed. In all the parks, the government has been facilitating conditions to engage local investors,"the CEO said.
MH Engineering Consultant Managing Director Dr. Mesele Haile said that as the design and construction works of the industrial parks are up to standard, they won't affect the environment as well as social welfare.
Phase two of Bole Lemi Industrial Project would serve investors engaged in textile, garment and footwear and Qilinto for those investors interested in food processing, pharmaceuticals and high tech products.
