Riverfields is a mixed use development that has attracted global brands, among others DHL, John Deere, Jonsson and DB Schenker, to state-of-the-art business and logistics parks. With the underpass business in the area is poised to thrive.

 

The Riverfields underpass in South Africa is expected to improved access and mobility for businesses located at the Plumbago Business Park and the Plumbago Logistics Park, as the freeway cuts across these two parks providing better connectivity.

 

The R80m privately funded project, which was done in association with JT Ross however required close coordination with authorities particularly Sanral and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

 

“The project is equally unique as it integrates cycle and pedestrian paths which are part of a larger strategy of developing Riverfields as a forward-thinking ‘green’ city.

 

We are in constant deliberations with the authorities to upgrade and expand the road network and thereby make way for future investment in other developments in the region,” said Lardus Erasmus from Riverfields Development.

 

The underpass which is 100 meters long took 14 months to construct with an average of 60 people employed during the construction phase.

 

VIP Consulting Engineers, AECOM, Civilcon, Pegasus Civil Engineering Contractors, CPE Consulting Engineers and Prokor were the contractors and engineers responsible for the delivery of the project.

 

Riverfields will also feature a regional shopping centre, a neighbourhood shopping centre, residential properties meeting the needs across the housing market, social and institutional facilities as well as an extensive rehabilitated and conserved wetland system which will lie at the heart of community life.
