Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete is this week expected to launch gas processing facility and pipeline from Mtwara through Songo songo to Dar es Salaam according to Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) managing director Dr. James Mataragio.
According to Mataragio construction works are already complete with pumping of gas already ongoing between Mtwara and Dar es Salaam.Already preparation activities for the launch are ongoing ahead of the event.
“On the Mtwara side pumping of gas has began at amounts of 60 MMcf/day from three production wells each producing 20MMcf/day,” says Mataragio.
The fourth well also expected to produce 20MMcf/day is expected to come online by the end of October making the daily total output 80MMcf/day.
TPDC adds that the project will only utilize gas discovered onshore mainly for electricity generation.
“The benefits of natural gas include generation of electricity to the national grid, growth of industries, continuous supply of raw materials for industries such as the fertiliza and plastic, increase in GDP as well as increase in employment,” Dr Mataragio explains.
