The project is part of the Jubilee government's pledge to construct the five high altitude stadiums in different parts of the country.
Sports Kenya, The Stadium Consultancy (TSC) of Netherlands and local consultants did a feasibility study on the land where they facility will be
TSC managing director Venbrink Benjamin, said they intend to put up a stadium with a sitting capacity of between 20,000 to 30,0000
"It will be a huge task to undertake and that is why we are on the ground conducting the site analysis," Venbrink noted. He said they need a site which will make the stadium economically and environmentally sustainable.
"This will be a high performance training center and we need to factor in many things like parking, power, road network and how much the stadium will generate in terms of income among other things," Venbrink added. According to him, the stadium will be IAAF certified and this will mean more benefits to athletes due to its high altitude location. He said sporting facilities which are currently not in the country will be availed at the stadium for fine-tuning of athletes.
Sports Kenya interim chairman Ibrahim Hussein said the feasibility study report will be out in the next six months and will be followed with a detailed design.
Hussein said the team will move to Nairobi and Mombasa to conduct the same exercise before the construction works kicks off.
"All the feasibility study says that the three stadiums will be done and released in the next six months. We have given it enough time so that we can get everything right and even the experts have recommended that way," Hussein said.
He said the stadium needs not less than 150 acres of land since there will be many facilities to be constructed. Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson
