Wilo, A German Water Pumps, and pump systems manufacturer will soon open an assembly plant in Nairobi, Kenya. The plant will be expected to serve the needs of the whole East African market.

The firm’s Country Manager Belete Asnake confirmed that the plant will be fully functional by 2020. He also revealed that the firm’s regional office currently hires 20 people but that number is expected to rise rapidly with the company targeting a 250 million market in East Africa.
Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania and others are currently on the Wile’s agenda in East Africa.
Mr. Asnake made the announcement in the presence of Water Secretary Eugene Wamalwa at the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) in Nairobi.
Mr. Asnake elaborated by stating that, the water sector will need more funding from both the private sector as well as the public sector to meet the current demands while also tackling the problems posed by climate change. It will also be critical in meeting the future water needs of the nation.
Germany’s Head of Economic Affairs, Michael Derus also added saying that German-based companies in the wastewater and water sub-sectors have signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Kenya and that of Germany.
Derus sees a huge opportunity for German companies to meet the needs of a growing urban population in Kenya with the increase in urbanization. While Kenya and Germany also look for a strong training capacity in water management in Kenya.
